Fanatics Fest NYC 2025 Details! Big Thank You for Season 4 of the Podcast!
This Week's Giveaway Contest: Paul Skenes rookie card!
Alright, let’s get right into it.
Fanatics Fest NYC is returning for 2025 and according to Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, it’s going to be bigger and better than 2024.
Now we already went over what Fanatics Fest was like in a previous podcast episode as well as a number of interviews with fellow collectors and influencers who attended (Apple Podcasts). But TLDR, it was a really fun sports fan and collector experience.
So the question is what will the 2025 show be like? First off, it’ll be taking place in June instead of August.
According to Rubin, it’s because it allows for more athletes across the major sports to be available and to participate in Fanfest with more than 500 expected to attend for the 2025 show (vs. 300 in 2024).
But for collectors specifically, they can expect the trading collectibles and memorabilia space to also have a bigger presence – perhaps incorporating what they had hoped to implement in the now cancelled Orlando show?
The other big question is what kind of impact will this show have on The National now that it’s taking place in June instead of August.
Will having Fanatics Fest before The National impact the number of people going to either show? Let us know what you think in the chat! We discuss it in this week’s pod coming out Tuesday (Dec. 10)!
Moving on, when we have our weekly Cards To The Moon podcast, I’m usually the one interviewing the guest. But I had the pleasure recently of being the guest on Bryan Denison aka Cajun Cardboard’s popular YouTube channel.
It’s always fun chatting with Bryan and his knowledge of basketball cards and specifically Michael Jordan cards is extraordinary.
So it’s no surprise he’s been on our podcast twice (in Season 2 and 3 of our pod) which you can revisit by checking out our list of podcast guests here.
But definitely check out his content on his YouTube channel, especially if you’re into basketball cards.
And lastly, we always like to have some fun on the pod, which is why our third segment of our podcast is usually some kind of game or quiz show.
We’ve started doing more of these “Blind Ranking” segments including our latest which was ranking five cards that each sold for about $10,000 recently.
I was the host and Hyung and John were the contestants. See how they did (below in our extended YouTube clip) and which list you like better or agree with more!
Now on to our last week’s newsletter winner for the Ronald Acuna Jr. box topper (5 by 7 inches?), congrats to Bob B.! We’ll ship that out to you this week.
For this week’s contest, we’ll be giving away this Paul Skenes rookie card. If you’re a regular newsletter subscriber, you know the drill. Just email us at hello@fivecardguys.com or DM us @fivecardguys on Instagram.
Here are our quick hits this week:
PSA made some pretty big announcements recently including what they call “PSA Offers” and a small change in what they call “Declared Value” but with some potentially big implications. (Listen on Apple Podcasts | Spotify)
Remember the Victor Wembanyama “No Autograph” cards? The cards actually said on the front “No Autograph” because Panini didn’t have the license to get his autos. I made this IG reel to show how the pricing has gone throughout 2024.
If you never heard of "Spotify Wrapped,” it’s when Spotify takes the data from our podcast and gives us a final update of how our podcast did. Let’s just say this year was our best ever and it’s all thanks to you guys the listeners. I know we’re not done 2024 yet, but this is just an early thank you for a great Season 4 of our podcast. And we can’t wait for Season 5 with some cool new ideas for the pod!
